USC - Olin Hall
Infrastructure + Renovation
Los Angeles, California
Olin Hall of Engineering, designed by prominent architect William Pereria and constructed in 1963 is a historical building eligible for listing in the California Historical Register.
The 62,196 S.F. building complex consists of two five- story towers and a central freestanding elevator/stair core interconnected by way of concrete walkways screened by precast concrete sunscreens.
The retrofit consisted of adding exterior lateral shear wall elements behind portions of the sunscreens and thickening the existing shear tower ends. This allowed for minimal interference with interior spaces and visual impact. Minimal deferred maintenance and ADA upgrades were also a part of this project.
